A goal of NRG is to establish InterX technology as a standard of medical treatment in the Sports Injury, Rehabilitation, and Chronic Pain markets. To this end, we have begun and completed clinical trials focused on showing the success of the InterX 5000 when treating people with severe pain. No matter whether a patient suffers from a sprained ankle, a hip replacement operation, or years of pain from an old injury, the pain they experience affects their daily life. Pain is not only a limiting factor in the activities of daily living, but in can also affect a patient’s ability to engage fully in active rehabilitation processes and achieve an effective recovery.

Early clinical findings support what years of experience have shown, the InterX 5000 is a significantly effective non-invasive, non-drug option for the treatment of pain. In a study of post-operative orthopedic patients with chronic, severe pain the patients reduced their pain from a 6 out of 10 to less than a 2 out of 10 after only three 30-minute InterX 5000 treatments. The results represent a 79% decrease in average pain scores, and statistical analysis showed a p-value of <.001. A statistically significant reduction in pain of this degree indicates that there is a very high probability (99.9%) of these results being true and replicable in other similar groups. Efforts continue to repeat this finding and tell the story of how the InterX 5000 can make a difference in the management of pain, both acute and chronic.

Severe Chronic Pain in Orthopedic PatientsA trial on the effects of the InterX 5000 in patients with chronic, severe orthopedic pain has been completed and the results presented as a poster at The 18th Annual Symposium of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (September 29 – October 2, 2005, Kyoto, Japan).
The trial was conducted by Gerhard Maale, MD, an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in oncology, complex revisions of previously failed surgeries, and antibiotic resistant infections. Dr. Maale is also Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
The trial comprised of a group of 22 of Dr Maale’s most complex and severe chronic pain patients. These patients had significant complaints of pain in spite of management by invasive procedures and pain medication. The trial showed a statistically significant reduction in pain with a p-value of <.001 and the results are summarized below:
* 79% decrease in average pain scores reported after 3 treatments
* 68% of patients reported complete relief after 3 treatments
* 40% of patients receiving medication voluntarily reduced their intake (durgesic patch, hydrocodone, etc.)
Knee Injuries – InterX Therapy to Solve Unsolved Sports InjuriesA review of 19 patients with knee joint injuries to bone, cartilage, tendon, or ligament that were treated with the InterX 5000 was presented at the International Congress on Sports Rehabilitation and Traumatology, Bologna, Italy, 2005. Stephen Coleman, BSc. Presented this study consisting of subjects with unsolved knee injuries of between 3 and 36 months old that prevented participation in their chosen sport. The results are summarized below:
* Pain reduction of greater than 2 points on the pain scale in 100% of subjects
* Return to full sport participation for 89% of subjects
Retrospective Review of 129 patients - CE mark Technical FileData relating to 129 patients (51 males, 78 females) was collected through the experience of five trained Medical Doctors and therapists in the UK, and it was concluded that the device offers a means of total or significant pain relief to 90% of patients treated. Various complaints were treated during the data collection with back pain, frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis and various types of arthritis being the most common. The treatment was considered effective if the difference in the level of pain as judged by the patient was greater than 2 points on the VAS scale. Out of the total of 129 complaints, 34 were acute and 95 chronic. 33 (97%) acute patients experienced complete or significant pain relief; of the patients suffering from chronic pain 86 (90%) experienced complete or significant pain relief (see table below).

* Pain relief and improved functional outcomes in osteoarthritis of the knee
* Spondylosis
* Plantar Fasciitis
